A little late but I started working on sock bunnies, I had to redirect my socks from my monkey-a-day goal. They are calling out to be hugged! So cute!

Women's Club of Glen Ridge Favorite Doll Tea 2009

The Doll Tea today was very high energy, better attendance than last year, and a great success for us! We did twice as good as last year and we were hopping for quite a while selling fairy finger puppets, Uglydolls, stickers, and flipbooks to the cute girls who came for high tea with their favorite dolls. This was our third year attending as part of the "boutique" and it was a pleasure as always!

Paper-n-Stitch Exhibition

Getting Ready For Easter

PoppyTalk Handmade Green Pop Market Showcase

Today begins my showcase in the PoppyTalk Handmade Green Pop Showcase, an eco, spring, and easter themed marketplace featuring recycled, upcycled, spring stuff and things that hop! It will run through April 10th and features really wonderful artists!

 

Repurposed Items For Spring

I'm working on an idea I've had that will be fun for spring and also potentially a great class to teach to kids. I got some great alphabet letter sand molds in upper and lower case and I'm filling them with paper pulp to create a paper letter. In this first test run I used brown kraft paper packing material but I want to try it with newspaper also. Newspaper is less toxic than glossy junk mail which was my original thought but I also want to embed flower seeds or bird seed into the paper pulp and I need something that won't hurt the ground or the birdies. Most newspaper is printed with soy or vegetable ink and uses less chemicals than in the past. So my first test went nicely, the letters popped right out of the molds, with the exception of capital G but I can simply reconstitute the pulp and try again. Kids can spell their names out and put them in a pot of soil or in a garden and the seeds will grow. The birdseed letters can be left out for birds to eat. It's been fun to take out my old paper pulp blender and make something fun for springtime.

Monkey-A-Day

I'm trying to focus on sock monkeys this week. I want to build up my inventory for upcoming shows and so I have a nice selection in the shop. I finished this one yesterday and today I'll work on a special order. I'm trying to make one every day until I run out of socks which should be some time next week if I keep up the pace. I really like the way this one turned out, his face is friendly. He's available here.

50 Bags Bag

I finally finished my 50 Bags Bag, so named because it took about 50 A&P grocery bags cut into "plarn", or plastic yarn, and crocheted. It's 13" tall, 10" wide at the base and 8" wide at the top. It would be a great lunch bag!
