As much as this situation sucks, I have a lot to be thankful for. My family is awesome! They are totally supportive, as they have been my entire life. I am lucky to live near them and see them every day. This is also showing me who my real friends are. And people have been so generous and kind. I'm ready to start over in 2007. I'm feeling hopeful just like you should at the beginning of a new year.

This week so many people have told me it was their first time in the store. They're just as bummed but also just as supportive as my longtime customers.

There are lots of signs up in the store. Over the next month they'll change. By the end the number will have changed to 50 and hopefully there won't be much left.
The saddest reaction so far has been my daughter's. She cried for half an hour. It was heartbreaking. She doesn't know anything else. She wasn't even this upset when my mom closed Toys in the Attic. I cried for an hour over that! The big thing was always how I opened the day after her first birthday. So every year it was her birthday and the next day it was Copabananas' birthday. This year when she turned 9, I was more freaked out that the store was turning 8! I've never had a job so long. And I've never had a job where I got up every single day and was happy to go to work.

Yesterday went way better than I thought it would. I was, in fact, dreading yesterday. It was a cloud over my Christmas. But people were amazing! I was grateful how supportive and understanding people were. The reactions were overwhelming. One woman thought she might cry and several people found it hard to shop after receiving the news (but they managed to overcome their grief and shop anyway). We definitely ruined the day for a few people. Everyone seemed to know instinctively why I'm closing. They asked and I told them, "Rent increase", and they figured that was it. It seems to be an epidemic. But the most common reaction was "You're closing! This SUCKS!". I agree.
Here's where things start to change. Today starts the liquidation sale. This blog will be different from now on, just like my life...
It's all about pacing myself today, the busiest day of the year. Yesterday I actually went home for a short nap. It was starting to catch up to me. But today I won't have that luxury so I got a lot of sleep and now I'm ready for the craziness.
